BET STILL CATCHING HEAT OVER MJ TRIBUTE ,DRAKE AND WAYNE PERFORMANCE

Posted on 02 July 2009 by admin

drake-lil-girls

During the BET awards my twitter was buzzin with everyone stating the awards sucked, the MJ tributes were lame but nothing caused more buzz then the drake and wayne performance and the pre-teens that joined them on stage eveyone just asked WTF? well my twitter fam you all weren’t the only ones wondering and voicing your opinions peep below…….

Award-winning filmmaker Byron Hurt has become the lAtest figure to address BET for their airing of Lil Wayne and Drake’s “Every Girl” performance at the 2009 Awards ceremony.

Directing an open letter to BET President Debra Lee, Hurt focused on Weezy’s set and his reaction to the Michael Jackson tribute.

“BET failed to deliver a solid, quality show,” he wrote. “Rather than ‘raising the bar’ and presenting African-Americans as a creative, proud, dignified people, BET lowered the bar for the entire world to see. The BET Awards drew a huge audience to watch a tribute to Michael Jackson, but left millions of viewers feeling disappointed, embarrassed, and reduced to classic stereotypes…Show executives watched, approved, and applauded as artists Lil Wayne, Drake, and Cash Money brought young, under-aged girls onto the stage to dance and serve as window dressing while they performed ‘Every Girl,’ a song that reduces girls and women to sex objects. In a culture where one out of four girls and women are either raped or sexually assaulted - and where manipulative men routinely traffic vulnerable women into the sex industry - it is not okay that BET allowed this to happen. BET owes its entire audience - particularly girls and women around the world - an apology for its failure to intervene.” (The Urban Daily)

Journalists covering the event also expressed their reactions to the set.

Overrall, the show was a big downer because…many things just seemed out of place. For example, Drake’s performance had Lil’ Wayne and his pre-teen daughter with other young girls on stage rapping along to “Every Girl in the World,” which is a song about having escapades with all the girls in the world. (Examiner)

Reports have also spread online which claim the young girls’ on-stage appearance was unplanned.

According  sources, Wayne’s daughter Reginae, 9, was upset that she didn’t get the chance to accompany her father, Lil Wayne, to the stage to accept his award because she was sitting too far back in the audience. Once backstage, the youngster began to cry. And Wayne, who they say is a great dad, hated to see his little girl cry. So he told Reginae she could come out onstage during his performance with Drake. Reginae, being the team player that she is, asked the other members of her group to go out on stage with her.

WHO THE HELL is Byron Hurt  AND WHY IS HE BITCHIN? well byron is known for his documentaries including Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes.

Byron Hurt is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, a published writer, and an anti-sexist activist. His most recent documentary, Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. It was later broadcast nationally on the Emmy award-winning PBS series Independent Lens, drawing an audience of more than 1.3 million viewers. To date, Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes (BBR) has been selected to appear in more than 50 film festivals worldwide and The Chicago Tribune named it “one of the best documentary films in 2007.” (Byron Hurt)

JAY-Z & DIDDY BOYCOTT OK! MAGAZINE OVER MJ COVER?

OK! Magazine has sunk to a new low. OK Magazine paid $500000 for a cover “death photo” of Michael Jackson on a stretcher, as emergency personnel tried to revive the dying star, which has created quite a controversy amongst Michael Jackson fans, the pathetic magazine’s advertisers and the music community.ok magazine michael jackson cover picture

Jay-Z and Diddy among others have reportedly reacted to the OK! Magazine Michael Jackson cover which features the late singer being rushed to the hospital.

While Jay’s camp has yet to confirm, a rep for Diddy claimed the magazine’s decision has had an effect on their advertising relationship.

according to sources some staffers objected to owner Richard Desmond’s decision to put the ghoulish picture on this week’s cover — and it looks like advertisers and readers may agree. source’s say, “Media buyers have canceled upcoming meetings to discuss rates. It’s a disgrace. They’ve sunk to a new low.” In addition, diddy and Jay-Z are said to be so furious, “they’re organizing a boycott,” allegedly.

A rep for OK! said, “This is untrue. No one at OK! has been contacted about any such cancellations as a result of the magazine’s coverage of this news event. Any pages booked by the advertising team are running as scheduled.” Combs’ rep echoed, “Not true.” Jay-Z’s rep didn’t return calls. (New York Post)

While a tons of magazines paid tribute to Jackson, OK!’s poor choice has received negative feedback. Time Magazine rushed to press to put an elegant tribute out; Newsweek eloquently navigated the decision to send a Jackson cover to newsstands, and its planned book cover to subscribers; and People magazine did its usual pitch-perfect memorial. And then there is OK! magazine and the reprehensible decision to pay a reported $500,000 for the “last” picture of Jackson, which shows him lying on a stretcher, possibly already dead. (MSNBC)

OK!’s spokesperson Brian Strong responded to the publication’s negative feedback. “The cover represents an event in the history of an extremely entertaining and controversial figure,” he wrote in a statement, “and is sure to provoke some emotion and questions from readers and fans about the circumstances. The news often does.” (Statement)

While Jay-Z is reportedly planning a Jackson tribute, Diddy recorded the song “Better On The Other Side” with The Game and others which honored the singer’s legacy.

“People can say what they want about you,” Puff says. “We gonna remember the miracles you showed us, through your music, through your hands…You’re the one that made us all realize, we are the world. You were the one who showed us the moonwalk. You gave us the beat, you gave us the rhythm. You gave us the soul. Through us, your legacy lives on.” (“Better On The Other Side”)

No further information on Diddy and Jay’s alleged boycott of OK! has been released.

-So if jayz OR his camp havent even released a statement why is his name being thrown in the mix? we will keep you updated if this supposed jay-z, diddy ok! magazine beef goes left.
